If you are a great fan or just know a little bit about the sport, I am sure you can name at least one, if not more, names of professional top players. But can you name one caddy?
Probably not. That’s normal, as they do not get in the spotlight and are not the face of any brand or product.
However, they do play a crucial role in the game of any good player. To be honest, I have always been impressed by the work of caddies in the sport, but it is only when I read the article of Andrew Jenkins, from VG Charles & Co that I made the connection to our role on the labour market.
So when reading this article, just make a quick bridge between our services and the role of a caddy.
What does a caddy actually do? It is the caddy who analyses the course. How are the fairways, where are the obstacles situated (brinkers, trees, water hazards, …) He/she will investigate the importance of the wind, the quality of the grass, the speed of the grass (greens?) as well as their slopes and breaks.
All this information will help the player of the tournament to choose the right club and decide where to land the ball.
Before a player works with a caddy, they meet and socialise several times in order to understand each other, know how to communicate and sense the personality of each other. They build trust, as they will rely on each other.
The day of the tournament, the caddy will carry the clubs and clean them. He will address the player on his choices and decisions, the latter has to make: he is also the person who is going to motivate the player, calm him down if necessary and help him to focus. The player will always make the final decision and no caddy will afterwards blame the player and say: “I told you to do it differently”.
A good caddy makes a huge difference, but cannot make a good player. We hope you could make the bridge with our role as staffing specialist. If you have any comment or suggestion, please let us know.
